Derrick Burts, a 24 year-old adult film performer who tested HIV-positive on October 9th at the Adult Industry Medical Healthcare Foundation (AIM) clinic, a Sherman Oaks clinic funded by and serving the adult film industry, will publicly address the media for the first time since reports of his HIV diagnosis while working in the adult film industry became public in mid-October, creating an international media frenzy and shutting down California’s multi-billion dollar adult industry for several weeks. It depends on the person but sometimes the antibodies can show up within 2 weeks of infection. The 3 month period suggests that HIV tests are 90% accurate. This guy is NOT telling the whole truth. He must have gotten it from someone outside the industry. He’s being coached by his lawyer to say what needs to be said to grab a fat pay day.
I have to agree that this guy is not telling the whole truth. I think his story about him talking about how he possibly got HIV from oral is BS. Granted, there is a possibility that you can get it from oral but the chances are extremely low. That’s from the CDC site. I think he got coached from his lawyer to say that it happened on the set. This fool probably got it from someone OUTSIDE the industry. Probably from a casual partner he picked up at a gay bar or something.
…meaning he contracted the virus before doing gay scenes? According to the facts and his statements, I’m having a difficult time putting the two together. If he had contracted the virus mid-September then it wouldn’t have shown up in the tests until mid-December.
What I don’t understand is that I’ve read Burts said he likely contracted HIV when doing a gay oral scene with another HIV+ actor. He said he started doing gay scenes in September, just one month before testing HIV+ (after testing that month HIV-). My doctors have told me HIV doesn’t show up in tests until 3 months after contracting it and in this statement he claims he contracted it mid-September. According to my doctors’ facts, wouldn’t he have contracted it late-June to early-July…
